Cúl Heroes is the new official trading card of the GAA/GPA which provides an innovative way of promoting Gaelic games, the players and the unique skills of our national games.

Launched at Croke Park today, for the first year the collection will include 468 footballers and hurlers from around the country and a collection book for storing each player.

In today's environment with issues like obesity and mental health effecting our youth, Cúl Heroes along with the GAA and GPA, saw an opportunity to communicate directly with our young members using the cards to portray positive messages around diet and emotional well-being.

As role models players play a vital role in communities and in the lives of young people so Cúl Heroes' aim is to reinforce this influence through associating them through positive messaging such as: "Remember, you are what you eat!" and "Young people who seek help feel better about themselves."

Brand ambassadors James McCarthy and Anthony Nash attended the launch along with the winners of the "Design a Jersey" competition from Ballyshannon National School in Kildare. Michael Murphy, Donegal and TJ Reid, Kilkenny are also brand ambassadors for this year.

Dessie Farrell, CEO of the GPA, is particularly enthusiastic about the use of messaging to help address the social issues our youth are facing in Ireland stating: "We're delighted with the initiative.  It's raising the profile of the players and our games in tandem with conveying important social messages for the youth of this country."

A packet of Cúl Heroes trading cards (6 cards per pack) will be on sale for €1.50/£1.20 throughout the 32 counties. The standard collection folder with 10 cards is available for €6.50 with a deluxe collection also available which has one player from each county for €10.
