It was one-up, one-down at Mullingar where Roscommon scored a 2-13 to 0-12 victory over neighbours Westmeath.

The result sees the Connacht county seal promotion and a place in the Division Two decider against Down, while the Lake County have been relegated for a second successive season after making a bright start to their league campaign.

The Rossies, meanwhile, are moving in the opposite direction as they have now claimed back-to-back promotions. Conor Daly and Senan Kilbride netted the all-important goals today, both majors arriving in the second half after the visitors had led by the odd point from eleven at the turnaround.

Kilbride, Daly, Ciaran Murtagh and Fintan Kelly had John Evans' men ahead by four points to no score after 15 minutes but the hosts made a fight of it from there to the short whistle, with John Heslin, Ger Egan and substitute Shane Dempsey all prominent.

But the match was over as a contest from the moment Daly rattled the Westmeath net three minutes after the restart. Second-half substitute Diarmuid Murtagh enhanced his growing reputation with four classy second-half points.
