Frankie Dolan was the best player Shane Curran lined out alongside during his long and eventful football career.

The 2013 All-Ireland club winning St. Brigid's goalkeeper, who announced his retirement at the age of 43 last weekend, writes in this week's Westmeath Independent: "I was fortunate to play with Tony McManus and Fergal O'Donnell, and also lads like Nigel Dineen, Francie Grehan and Karol Mannion and the two Kilbride brothers, Ian and Senan.

"They're all smashing players. But the best I played with - by some distance - was Frankie Dolan. He's a master of the art of football and one of the greatest GAA players of all-time. I will certainly miss sharing a dressing-room with Frankie, who was a privilege to play with."

'Cake' says the best player he played against was Galway's Padraic Joyce.

"I played against some of the best, including the Gooch (Colm Cooper), Maurice Fitzgerald and Peter Canavan. Padraic is, in my view, the finest ever football to emerge from Connacht," he added.
