Roscommon's Cathal Cregg is eager to make his mark in the International Rules series.

Cregg was delighted to be included in the squad that is travelling to Melbourne today (Wednesday) and he becomes the fifth Roscommon man to be involved in the international rules, following in the footsteps of Paul Earley, Francie Grehan, Gary Cox and Sean McDermott.

And the Western Gaels clubman admitted to the Roscommon Herald that it is a great privilege to represent your country.

"I was just delighted to make it. I knew I was going fairly well, but you can never be fully sure. I had seen the players that played it before and that have been good at it. I had played against them in colleges and I felt that I could do well at it," said Cregg.

"It's a great honour to play for your country. Not many have got the chance to do it. There hasn't been a whole pile over the years so it's great to get the chance to represent Roscommon
