Teams and Celebrity Match Announced in Kilmacud

A host of Kilmacud Crokes stars, past and present, were on hand in Kilmacud Crokes today as the 2014 FBD 7s was launched. This is the 42nd year of Ireland's Premier 7s tournament which has  become a firm favourite in the GAA calendar for both players and supporters alike.

The renowned tournament takes place on Saturday, 20 September in and around Kilmacud. We  are grateful to our neighbours and to next Parish rivals, Naomh Olaf, for use of their pitches and facilities.

In addition, to commemorate Dub, clubman, and Anti Smoking campaigner, Gerry Collins, a vintage '92 Donegal side will take on a Kerry flavoured celebrity team in a charity match with  collected funds being supplemented by the FBD7s committee.

The fans favourite; a draw for those elusive All-Ireland tickets, will also be available to supporters and players alike.

This year we are joined by 30 great parish sides including;

Teams will play out the group stages in the Stillorgan area: Silverpark, Naomh Olaf and Pairc de Burca (Glenalbyn) with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final being played on Saturday afternoon in Pairc de Burca, the home of Kilmacud Crokes.

Speaking at the launch, Uachtaran Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Liam O'Neill said; "Kilmacud Crokes' long running Sevens event has long since been enshrined as an integral part of All-Ireland weekend and huge crowds flock to the club year in year out to see top level action and to really kick start All-Ireland weekend.

It's a credit to the club that they organise the event to such a high standard on an annual basis  and I wish them well with their 2014 event, knowing it will be every bit as successful as in previous years."

Mr. Sean Fox, Broker Development Manager with FBD and Chairman of the Kilmacud Crokes
Football Committee said, "As a member of Kilmacud Crokes I am very proud to be standing here in the home of Kilmacud Crokes, my home as a boy and a man, to see the 42nd consecutive  running of the premium Sevens competition in Ireland and obviously from an FBD point of view, I am delighted to be here for our third involvement as the FBD7s."

Michael Garvey, FBD Director of Marketing & Sales added "Equally, with over 40 years in  business, FBD's commitment to local and national Sport continues with the FBD 7s in Kilmacud Crokes."

"As an Irish company, FBD recognise the important role the GAA has played in both the rural  and urban life of this country. We applaud their ongoing contribution and that of clubs such as  Kilmacud Crokes who epitomise all that is good at club level within the organisation. We wish all those competing the very best of luck, especially my home town team!"

Executive Chairman of Kilmacud Crokes, Kevin Foley commented, "We are very appreciative of FBD and their support and for supporting our passion in Gaelic games. Now known as the FBD 7s we believe that this partnership will help to keep the Sevens tournament front and centre on All-Ireland Final weekend as it should be."

Sean Fox added "To the senior lads and ladies here today from our own club, who continue to  deliver on and off the field, thank you for being such wonderful ambassadors for your club and  county over the years, there is more work to be done, but you have proved to be the people to  do it! This competition has without doubt gone from strength to strength over the last 42 years  but special thanks must also go to the GAA and to the media for their continued support," he  concluded.

Please use the phrase "FBD7s" wherever you can. Without the support of the sponsor, there
might be no news!

We do not take for granted the attendance and support of print, online, radio and TV, but we are viewers, listeners and browsers too and we love it!

Additional copy will be available through a journalist we have in attendance.

We will happily supply any more information or access you require.
