FBD Connacht League: McKeon goal sends Rossies into semis

January 05, 2020

Roscommon's Cian McKeon, scorer of 1-4 in the Connacht SFL quarter-final against Sligo.

Roscommon 1-15

Sligo 0-14

Cian McKeon’s goal midway through the second half proved decisive as an experimental Roscommon side saw off Sligo at Markievicz Park to qualify for an FBD Connacht League semi-final against Leitrim next weekend.

Scorer of 1-4, McKeon turned over possession before taking a return pass from substitute Eddie Nolan and raising the game's only green flag. The Rossies had wind advantage in the first half, but didn't take control until after Sligo corner forward Henry Walsh was sin-binned for a high tackle. Six unanswered points, including three from midfielder Shane Killoran, sent the visitors into the break with a 0-9 to 0-4 lead.

Sligo battled back to within two points, 0-10 to 0-12, thanks to scores from Conor Griffin, Paddy O'Connor and sub Darragh Cummins before McKeon's goal ended their comeback. The result means that the Yeats County remain without a win since Paul Taylor took the reins at the beginning of last season.
