Defibrillator Training Classes

We are making arrangements to run Defibrillator Training Classes (DATES TBC) and we urge as many club members as possible to attend.   

 

What is an AED?

An AED is an Automated External Defibrillator. It is a portable, simple to use, computerised device. When someone suffers a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) it delivers a shock to the heart to allow it to resume its normal rhythm. 

 

How an AED (and you) would save their life

An AED checks the heart’s rhythm and it automatically recognises if there is a life threatening rhythm. Once detected the AED delivers a shock to stun the heart returning it to its normal rhythm.

JUVENILE CAMOGIE INDOOR TRAINING 2019

 

Dear Parent / Guardian,

We are delighted to let you and your children know that U8, U10 and U12 indoor camogie for the coming season is taking place as follows:

€2 per child per night (to cover cost of hiring the gym)

Camogie Coaches and Assistants:  Deirdre McDermott, Ollie Moran, Dervilla Hoare, Roberta Hanley, Michael King, Niamh Fallon, Fiona Ní Chuinn, Orla Connaughton, Marie Cormican, Teresa Hession, Paula Connaughton, Jimmy Brennan, Damien McSharry.

Do you need a hurley? Yes. Players can play indoors with their own hurleys provided they put a sock over the bás to prevent floor damage.  Outdoor training will begin in late March.  Please talk to our coaches if you need to order a hurley as hurleys can be purchased at a lower cost through Roscommon Gaels GAA Club. 

 

Do you need a helmet?Yes.  All camogie players are required to wear helmets.  In the past, we have provided old helmets to players but since 2014 we have insisted that players have their own helmets which meet correct safety standards.  Please talk to our coaches if you need to order a Club helmet as helmets can be purchased at a lower cost through Roscommon Gaels GAA Club.   

 

Interested in coaching/assisting? We would be delighted with any help you can give.  We are particularly looking for help with the U8 girls.  The kinds of jobs we need help with are putting on helmets, taking players to the toilet if necessary, taking photos and notes for the club PRO, collecting money and doing the roll call, setting up drills and supervising training groups.  Please talk to any of the coaches above the next time you are at training.    

Club Registration Parents must register their child in order for her to be insured to train or play with the Club during the coming year.  You can download an application form from the Roscommon Gaels website and you can also talk to any of the coaches above. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

U-14 Hurling 
The U-14 hurlers lost to St. Dominic's in the county Feile last Saturday. Training continues on Monday evening at 5.30 p.m. in Lisnamult.

U16 Football

Our under 16s took to a very cold and wintery pitch today for their first match in the League v Castlrea at Lisnamult. Playing against the wind in the first half put our backs under a lot of pressure but the girls they did not give into it. Goaly Sioda McGuinness was outstanding today keeping their scoring down to just one goal. The full back line of Eadaoin Walsh, Carragh Kennedy and Caoimhe Walsh were solid and kept Castlrea’s scoring to a minimum. The half back line of Emma Crean, Mikayla Martin and the very talented player Ellen Beisty pushed the Castlrea girls back all day. Credit goes to Shauna Regan & Hollie Harkin who worked the field in all directions. Our forward’s and half forwards of Niamh Kelly, Jessica Doran, Isobelle Stephens Lohan, Saoirse Gilooly, Claire McNeill, Eimear O’Farrell, Ali Beirne, Ava Killion, Eva Greene were very strong and the scores were hard earned. Good luck for the rest of the season girls.

Junior Football

Our Junior Ladies took on St Michael’s today in round 2 of the Division 3 league in Ballyfarnon.  The Ladies played in atrocious wintery conditions, play had to be suspended for a time.  The opening half we were playing against a very strong wind and missed several opportunities at scoring.  We soon settled into the game 7 points down at half time.  The second everyone of the girls played their hearts out to record their first victory in the league.  Final Result Roscommon Gaels 4-05 St Michaels 4-0.  Next game in the league we play Oran. 

 

 

 

Support!

Please support all our teams as they compete in their various fixtures – it’s so important to all the players to see lots of support and encouragement on the side-lines – no matter what their age :-)!!  – It really does make a difference.

Especially the home games – what better way to pass an evening or morning – stroll up to the pitch, bring the kids and enjoy the fresh air while supporting your club.

Serious Support for all our players – don’t forget the club colours :-)

Roscommon Coaching and Games Development are seeking applications from third level students who wish to gain employment on our football & Hurling Cul Camps this summer and must apply with CV and cover letter to [email protected] 
We are asking clubs to pass this information onto their third level students. 
All applicants must be third level. 
Coaching background if possible. 
Must have GAA Garda Vetting.
