Former St Brigid's and Roscommon minor footballer Niall Murray was part of the Ireland U20 rugby team that defeated France in Cork last night to be crowned Six Nations champions.

The towering 6′ 7" 19-year-old second row was to the fore as Ireland won 31-29. Scotland's victory over Wales means that Ireland can't be caught at the top of the table, and they will now face the Welsh next Friday with the Grand Slam at stake.

Murray came off the bench for Roscommon in their one-point victory over Sligo in the 2016 Connacht MFC quarter-final before concentrating on the oval ball. His success with the Ireland U20s comes less than a fortnight after fellow St Brigid's clubman Jack Carty, who has also represented the Rossies at minor level, made his Six Nations senior debut for Ireland against Italy in Rome.
