Roscommon manager Anthony Cunningham has called for patience from the Rossies' supporters as they build towards their goals.

Cunningham sees his charges in action this Sunday when they take on Sligo in the FBD League semi-final with the winners playing Galway or Mayo in the final a week later.

Then the following week, their NFL Division One campaign starts with a clash against Mayo and Cunningham stressed to the Roscommon Herald that they have been building towards that opening league match since last November.

However, the Galway native stressed that it will take time for the squad to develop to where he wants it to be.

“There will be a lot of learning days and that’s the focus for this panel,” said Cunningham. “There will be a lot of development. We’ll be giving guys exposure and hopefully they’ll come through the test and, in time, develop as serious inter-county footballers.”

There are a number of changes to the squad from last year as Seanie McDermott has retired, while Ciaran Murtagh, John McManus and Cathal Compton have opted out of the squad for 2019.

Diarmuid Murtagh looks set to miss the majority of the league as he recovers from an eye injury, while Niall McInerney is focusing on medical exams at the moment.
