U12 Camogie (Eagles):

Hard luck to our U12 Camogie team (Eagles) who were beaten by St Dominc’s in a very tough final on Saturday 29th of September, in the County A Final replay held in Tremane.
From the throw in it was a tough, high intensity game. Dominic’s were the first on the scoreboard with a point from their forward line. Serious work from our midfielders Siofra Hession, Martha McSharry & Alannah Sutton and the half back line Eve McNeill, Ciara Killeen & Grace Geraghty meant the forwards were getting plenty of ball and the first score came from Shauna Walsh with seconds to go to half time levelling up the game. Roscommon Gaels 0-1 St Dominic’s 0-1.
In the second half two scores went over for St Dominic’s before the next Gaels score when Emma Hough put the sliotar over the bar from a free. Six minutes later a goal went in for the Gaels from full forward Leah Lennon after she saw a hole in the Dominic’s defense. Three minutes later a free from Siofra Hession left the score Roscommon Gaels 1-3 St Dominics 0-3. The girls battled on and fought hard. With minutes to go Dominic’s were awarded a 45 and Emma Connaughton put it in the back of the net. This levelled the teams up and this was to be our girls last score before the final whistle. With seconds to go Dominic’s went ahead by a point. Down to the final whistle our girls didn’t loose heart, our girls were unlucky at several frees and attempts at goal. They fought till the end against an evenly matched St Dominic’s team. It was nip and tuc throughout the game. After the match Joint Captains Emma O’Farrell and Siofra Hession received the Runners up medals.
Team for 2018 Co Final were: Molly Rose Finneran, Emma O’Farrell, Eve McNeill, Ciara Killeen, Grace Geraghty, Martha McSharry, Siofra Hession, Allannah Sutton, Emma Hough, Shauna Walsh, Anna Kiernan, Leah Lennon, Kate Harlow, Ellen Ryan, Aisling Harlow, Laura Glynn, Jane King, Amy Winston & Molly Tully. Thank you to Treman for allowing us to play the game there and for having the pitch in great condition. Thank you to referee Mike Ryan who did an excellent job.
Well done girls on an excellent year yea should all be so proud of how far yea all have come.

Senior Football:

Commiserations to our Senior Footballers who lost our by a point to Clann na Ngael in todays semi final in The Hyde. Having led for most of the game this was a very disappointing outcome for the Roscommon Gaels players. However, the lessons learned will surely see this team return stronger and wiser in next year’s competition. Roscommon Gaels 0-11 Clann na Ngael 1-09. Hard luck lads.

U10 Hurling

Our U10 outdoor season concluded Saturday in Lisnamult with a mini-tournament between our U10 hurlers. We fielded three 7-8 a-side teams: Lions (captained by Dylan Fallon) / Tigers (captained by Michael Byrne) / Bears (captained by Timmy Corcoran), in a round robin format. Conditions in Lisnamult were perfect for hurling with a slight breeze. All teams were very closely matched, with the deciding result going in favour of the Lions towards the end of the final game. Well done to all participants during 3 very exciting games.

We had a nice cup of tea and a few treats for parents and children, along with a presentation to the kids after the tournament. Many thanks to all parents who brought something on the day and stayed around for a chat and a cup of tea afterwards. Also thanks to Kristina and Nikki for looking after the catering!

Our U10 coaches kindly sponsored sliotars for each of our U10 hurlers at the end of year tournament. All hurlers who attended on the day received their slliotar. Those who were unable to attend will receive their sliotars in the coming weeks.

As our season wraps up, we look back on what has been a great season for hurling. At the 'end of season review' in November last year, we set ourselves a number of goals for this year including coaching, skills development and an increased number of games (outside of organised blitzes). Our #1 priority for the year was to increase participation and game time for all club members. We achieved this with our U10's, from the start of season indoors in the Convent Gym 8 months ago,

by fielding an incredible 54 teams against opponents in blitzes / challenges / tournaments, traveling on 14 different occasions across 5 counties (Roscommon, Mayo, Westmeath, Longford, Galway). The progress this bunch of lads has made this year is incredible. This would not be possible without 2 groups strongly supporting this effort:

* Our coaches - Adrian Tully / Stephanie Walshe / Jer O'Connor / Tommy Mulry / Peter Gilleran / Noel Egan / Shane Nerney and our TY student this year, Richard Walshe!

* Parents - who encouraged their children to play, committed to travel to challenges, shared lifts, supported all children from the sideline and supported coaches on the sideline, including the ever reliable Philip Fleming. Thank you!

As mentioned at our end of year tournament in Lisnamult Saturday, it is vital that our hurlers continue to practice. To this end, our U10 management team are in the process of finalising a 6 week indoor program of games during November / December. This will not be coaching / drills etc, but will be structured for our hurlers to play games amongst each other, practice their skills with some competitions and have some fun with their friends and team-mates. Details to follow in the coming weeks. Enjoy the break...... and keep hurling!
