Roscommon manager Kevin McStay has confirmed that defender Sean Mullooly will not be part of the squad for the remainder of the year.

It was reported last week that Mullooly was off on his travels for the year and would miss the rest of this year's campaign. Speaking to the Roscommon Herald, McStay confirmed this.

"Sean Mullooly is departing the panel," stated McStay. He's going travelling. It's one of these moments where life gets in the way. I had a long chat with him. He's very disappointed. He has just signed a three-year contract with KPMG. He starts in September, so this is his last chance to travel as a young man.

"He had a long think about it and that's what he wants to do. I can't and I wouldn't hold him back. It was a lovely adult conversation between management and Sean, and we're going to support him anyway we can.

"But we've time to recover from it and we will. We wish him luck because his education and his life come a long time before football. But he's hugely committed to being part of Roscommon when he comes back for September."

McStay also confirmed that the door would remain open for Niall McInerney who has left the squad to concentrate on his studies over the next couple of months.

"Niall McInerney won't be involved for the rest of the league. He'll be back on Good Friday. He's a medical student in his fifth year, and it's absolutely draining him. We had a good chat about it. He's going to jeep his eye in and come to a few training sessions. He's a big loss."
