exactly. was talking to one player and he said that the two teams came out at the same time, trying to go through the same gate in w.island and he said he was expecting to be mowed out of it. if anything he said the edenderry lads stood back. now im not trying to get a dig in nor was he sneering when he told me. but GOOD GOD. imagine if that had of happened 12 years ago!!

i completely agree with you regarding fixtures. the lads that play gaa in offaly are very badly treated, so i dont blame any lads from playing other games when they are guaranteed a game every week. And Edenderry have a great soccer and rugby club, two successful clubs so again i dont fault lads for choosing them sports or any other sport. All i was trying to say is i dont think its up to people from Walsh Island, Tullamore, Rhode or anywhere else to dictate to Edenderry how they run their club

i will agreee that the minor final was a joke and the county board really let themselves down. most clubs would have no problem re-fixing a game, esp at underage.

Torino, yep. I'd rather my young fella off playing rugby or soccer rather than sitting playing computer while he waits for gaa matches. The way fixtures go in this county is a joke. Its just that in edenderry they have very successfull rugby and soccer clubs. I know many gaa men in the town and they are trying to get things going BUT most will have nothing to do with the rugby or soccer crowd. And that, offalyred, is true.

Dead right Jim. If you look at it, young lads might play a few league games in March/ April then not start the championship until August or September, usually at a weeks notice. While at soccer or rugby you know when and where the games will take place at your first training session. More often than not kids usually get a game ever 2 weeks, if not every week, in soccer or rugby.

Sure look at the fiasco over the minor final a few years ago, when was it played December? No wonder some Edenderry lads went to play soccer instead.

Doing well? So getting to a minor final in 2008 and 5 of your players not shown up cause they have a soccer match?
or how about a junior semi final against birr a few years back?
or how about the U21 semi final in 2007 against Rhode?
or how about the U21 semi final in 2008 against Clara?
or how about playing the group stages of a championship (2008+2009), your team ends up in relegation playoff(which was as much your fault as the other players) but you couldnt be bothered to play the playoff's which means you dont care if they stay senior or not?

These are only some of the things that spring to mind. Plus there is no "ban".... they were asked to committ fully which some players couldnt do.

Honestly there is way more to the story than the gibberish ye have been fed by someone trying to cause trouble

Is there really though?
You say about lads leaving half way through the season, BULL. If they played at the start and everything was going well then they wouldnt leave.

On a side note, its not edenderrys fault lads are leaving for other sports it the GAA's .

Maybe none of ye know what your talking about. the players that are playing are the one's that would die for the jersey and not just **** off half way through a season. Honestly there is way more to the story than the gibberish ye have been fed by someone trying to cause trouble

I dont think your previous comment is very fair curiosgeorge, I certainly dont think it would be unforgivable for Daingean to loose the junior championship this year. Yes it would be very dissapointing but unforgivable i dont think so.

Maybe developing a nice new clubhouse and field was not the right thing for edenderry to be at. Development is great in every club but u need players to play for them to be of any benifit to the club or town.

There was a big fanfare around the big development plan for Edenderry GAA which was coordinated by Paul O'Kelly a couple of years ago. Where do these results fit in? Edenderry has been badly hit with soccer in particular, but is forcing players to choose the answer. I am really surprised at how poorly they have done, considering the management team they have in place. Men who would have died for Edenderry. Its symptomatic of the problems in GAA in Offaly, especially in football. Very few county players coming through Tullamore, Edenderry & Clara with the size of these towns.

Would be great for Daingean to win a championship without the Greenes, as would give the other lads a lot of confidence. I feel a lot of guys have been intimidated by their presence over the last few years. Lot of good young players their who need to make their own mark on a championship.
Would be unforgiveable in Daingean if they do not win this year as they would likely face Clara in the junior next year!

fair comment by the last poster daingean are very strong !!shamrocks will be determined to beat tullamore AGAIN,they do have some very nice players with jimmy conway and packie walsh...but with Michael Kenaney the tullamore town soccer man back playing with them he will add a lot of pace and scoring ability upfront, they should give tullamore another good game clonamore should also give daingean another scare !!any dates or possible venues decided for these games yet??

very surprising results from the weekend's action. I do feel Daingean are clear favorites this year tho, a young team with confidence and putting up some big scores in games. i feel john greene's absence might turn out to be a positive funnily, with him not playing i feel the will use there other forwards more often with the ball which the didn't tend to do over the last few years. However i feel tullamore will have a say where the title will head, in there group stages had a very unsetteled team losing some players to senior and injuries. Againest kilcormac the where soild down the middle with simon byrne being involved with everything in there forwards, not sure of there young midfielders but very good on ball and catching. and a big player was stephen egan at centre back he dominated the area and swept up any loose ball. He surely is worth a place on there senior team so keeping him at junior would be a big plus for them. Shamrocks are a tough team and wont fear anybody but i feel the will fall short as the over relieant on packie walsh and jimmy conway not really much else i feel for them to score. And Clonmore a big strong team with pace ,will give dangean plenty of it and might run them close but feel daingean have too much scoring power and should pull through. My feeling is that just might be Daingeans year!!!!!

Luker, I dont think the decision on Greene was made yet. Speaking to a few lads over there they said it would be 3 months that he'd get. Probably wont play a part for them in the championship this year again then. They've a nice young side all the same, possibly a bit too nice actually. They might end up missing that bit of toughness that Greene always brings to them. They're actually missing the 2 Greenes this year. Long time since Daingean were looking good without the two of them involved. Clonmore bullied them in their group game I hear and if thats let happen again then Clonmore could well spring another surprise. I still would take Daingean though, because the game will be in a neutral venue and if its on any decent size of a pitch they'll win with 3 or 4 points to spare.
I'd fancy Tullamore to beat Shamrocks too, purely on the basis of them beating K/K at the wknd. Shamrocks gave them a hiding in the group stage a few weeks back but Tullamore seem to have regrouped since then. Tullamore to win it by 3 or 4 points too I think. Realistically, of these teams, only Daingean would probably be able to mix it at Intermediate next year.
At the other end of things I see Ballycommon being relegated although they might be saved if either Ferbane, Tullamore or Daingean were to win Junior B, providing Tullamore or Daingean didn't also win the Junior A as well.
