Roche hosted Mattock\Hunterstown in round 5 of the U16 Div 2 league fixture.

In an evenly contested first half it was the home team that started brightly and raced into an early lead. With the highlight being a wonderful team goal finished to the net by half back Peter Lynch. The visitors then started to get into the game to leave the half time score Roche 2-05 Mattock\Hunterstown 0-5 with Roche's second goal coming from Gerard Browne who also scored a point to add to 0-3 points from Glen Stewart and 0-1 from Mickey McCourt.

The second half continued like the first with both teams playing some good football in what was a very sporting contest.

Roche Emmets 4-05 v Cooley Kickhams 3-03

Roche U12s kicked off their involvement in Division 1 with a clash with old foes Cooley in Castleroche this evening. On a beautiful sunny evening, both teams served up a magnificent tussle with wonderful displays of skill from both sides.

Roche gained the upperhand from the off and aided with a slight wind, raced into an early lead. Conor Callan led the way with two expertly taken goals to give the boys a 2:02 to 2:00 lead at halftime.  Cooley piled the pressure on after the break but resolute defending and clever teamwork allowed James Corcoran and DD Reilly to notch two more goals. Cooley did reply with a late goal and a couple of points but Roche prevailed on a scoreline of 4:05 to 3:03.

Sean Connolly, Finn Conlon and Matthew McArdle produced Herculean performances at the back. DD Reilly and Ryan Martin did trojan work in the middle of the park and Conor Callan was at his sharpshooting best upfront.

A great start to the league but another tough assignment in the guise of the Gaels is up next for the lads on Monday night.
