Na Fianna club notes

U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 2

Na Fianna U16 Footballers made it 2 wins out of 2 as they demolished Edenderry in their Rd 2 encounter last Monday week in Edenderry on a scoreline of 8-16 to 2-05 gaining revenge for Edenderry's win in the opening round of the league earlier in the year which denied Na Fianna a place in the A league final. The story of the game came about in the first half as Na Fianna blitzed their opponents straight from the off scoring 6-13 with the goals scored by Emmett Curley, James Bryan (2), Gavin Kelly, Mark Dillon & Lee Mulpeter. Edenderry's only reply was 1-01 with the goal coming from a harshly awarded penalty. In the second half Na Fianna increased their tally with a further 2-03 without reply by the midpoint of the half with the goals finished by Morgan Tynan and Jacob Beatty. This completed Na Fianna's scoring for the evening with the result was safely in the bag they eased off the presure and in the remaining 15 mins Edenderry did get in to get a consolation tally of 1-04 to marginally reduce their defecit.

U14 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 1

Na Fianna as holders made a sucessfull start to their bid to retain the U14 A Football Championship as they also brushed aside the challenge of Edenderry in their Rd 1 encounter last Sunday morning in Ballinagar on a scoreline of 5-07 to 2-05. Edenderry opened the scoring with a goal inside 2 mins but Na Fianna were up and running with a point and a goal from Robbie Gallagher within 5 mins. A point for Edenderry was followed by Na Fianna's second goal on 10 mins from midfielder Diarmuid Finneran to re-take the lead. Thereafter for the next 20 mins Edenderry added 3 points to Na Fianna's 1 and so Na Fianna still led until 2 mins into stoppage time when Edenderry were awarded a penalty for a foot block which they duly converted for their second goal to lead at the break 2-04 to 2-02. Na Fianna hit the ground running early in the second half scoring 4 points in a row before Edenderry got their only point and score of the second half on 9 mins. With Na Fianna ahead by just the minimum they struck for their 3rd goal on 16 mins when Geordi O'Meara kicked a 45 direct to the top right corner of the net and within 5 mins corner forward Oisin Henchy blasted 2 more goals to the net both shot from the right wing to the top left corner of the net. This is how it remained until 2 mins into stoppage time when centre back Sean Rattigan got up to fire over a brillant point.
