Offaly must plan without midfielder Niall Smith for the coming year.

Smith has opted off the panel for the year ahead and the midfielder's experience will be a loss to the squad.

Last year, Smith scored a crucial goal against Longford in the championship, but was handed a suspension following an incident involving Westmeath's Kieran Martin at the end of their Leinster SFC clash.

Offaly manager Pat Flanagan welcomes back the Rhode contingent this week and he will be delighted to see them return following Wednesday night's defeat to Longford.

This weekend, Offaly take on Kildare in the last group game of the O'Byrne Cup.
