Former Offaly minor hurling manager John Leahy is putting his name forward to be the next Renua leader.

The political party, which failed to win any seats in the General Election earlier this year, has announced that it is to publicly advertise for the position of a new leader, offering a salary of €65,000, and Leahy is favourite to succeed Lucinda Creighton in the role. The new leader will be tasked with rebuilding the party nationally.

Kilcormac man Leahy, who has served on Offaly County Council since 2009, will quit his job as Offaly GAA Coaching and Games Development Officer if he lands the Renua leadership.
