Rhode GAA Notes

August 24, 2015

Rhode Senior footballers kept their unbeaten run in this year's championship when on Sunday evening in very wet conditions they had a hard earned draw with neighbours Edenderry on a score line of 4-4 to Edenderry 1-13 to Rhode.  Rhode had the aid of a slight wind in the first half but we conceded three goals in this period and the score at the interval was 3-2 to 0-5.  A good second half recovery from Rhode a goal from Niall McNamee soon put Rhode leading by 1-12 to 3-4.  With minutes left Edenderry scored their fourth goal but Rhode fought back with a magnificent point from Ruairi McNamee levelled the match.  This keeps Rhode's remarkable record of not being beaten in the group stages of the championship since 2001 when ironically it was Edenderry who beat them.  Rhode's last game in the group stage is against Ferbane.

Rhode Intermediate footballers lost their third game in this year's championship when they were beaten by Bracknagh in Ballyfore on Sunday morning on a 1-8 to 1-5 score line.  Rhode play Shannonbridge in the last group game in two weeks.

Rhode Under 14 footballers were compressively beaten by St. Vincent's in Gracefield on Wednesday evening the score line was 7-17 to 3-3.

Rhode Under 12 team played a very competitive challenge against Erin Rovers in Pullagh in Thursday evening.  It was a great game and thanks to Erin Rovers for the game.

Under 8s Blitz

Rhode Under8s boys took part  in a blitz in Daingean on Saturday morning last.

Rhode, St. Vincents, Gracefield and St. Broughans played each other with Rhode doing very well and as always representing our club with distinction

Thanks has to go to the Management team  Johnny Mooney and Brendan Glennon for having the Under 8s  organised so well.

Celbridge U,10 Football Festival

Rhode Under 10s Travelled to Celbridge to take part  in an Under10 Football Festival with 32 teams taking part from all over the country.

Rhode were the only Offaly team that took part in the annual event so it was extra sweet to win all of their group games to reach the quarter finals . While beaten in the quarter final Rhode can hold their heads high with how they played and represented their club throughout the blitz.

Thanks to the Celbridge club for the invite and especially to Teresa Geaney who was instrumental to Rhode getting the invite, it was very much appreciated.

A big thanks to all parents who travelled to Celbridge especially the management team Ken Kellaghan, Pauric Murphy and Derek Egan for their great work.

The best of luck to the Rhode Senior Ladies team who play Naomh Ciaran in the County Final on Saturday in O'Connor Park at 1.30pm.
