At the August meeting of the Meath County Committee in Kilmessan St Colmcille's delegate and former chairman Pat O'Neill proposed that congratulations be sent out to Offaly golfer Shane Lowry on his big victory in America.

O'Neill remarked that Lowry was a member of a well-known GAA family. His father, Brendan, along with brothers Sean and Michael, was on the Offaly team which scored a sensational victory over Kerry in the 1982 All-Ireland SFC final when the Kingdom were denied the five-in-a-row.
