Hurling semi-final ref facing ban

August 06, 2015

Offaly referee Brian Gavin

Brian Gavin will be free to referee Sunday's All-Ireland SHC semi-final between Kilkenny and Waterford, despite facing a one-month ban.

The three-time All-Ireland final referee was proposed for the suspension by the Offaly CCC following comments he made to another match official, Padraig Pierce, during the recent Offaly JFC quarter-final between Clara and Kilclonfert.

According to the Tullamore Tribune, Gavin is to appeal the ban to the Offaly Hearings Committee, and will be free to continue refereeing and serve his role as Clara chairman until after the hearing takes place.
