Rhode GAA club notes

Over 115 young talented boys and girls attended the Rhode GAA Cul camp which took place last week while the weather on Monday
morning wasn't great it certainly didn't dampen the spirits of the kids and the weather improved and certainly the sun shone on the display of talent throughout the week.  The boys and girls took part in many activities mostly the skills of Gaelic Football which the coaches were very impressed by and it was even commented on that we have a few good hurlers also!

The Kids received their fine Gaelic Gear during the week and on finishing on Friday afternoon the boys and girls left with a drink and crisps supplied  by the club.  It is hoped that when leaving on Friday afternoon that the kids enjoyed their week and from speaking to parents they certainly did.

The Rhode GAA Club on holding it's annual Golf Classic on the 5th of September in Edenderry Golf Club and will cost 120e for a team of four. Rhode Senior footballers kept their unbeaten run in this year's championship when they recorded a 0-17 to 1-3 win over neighbours St. Brigid's in the third round of the Offaly senior football championship at a well presented Edenderry pitch on Sunday.  Very poor weather conditions prevailed and Rhode led by 0- 7 to 0-2 at the interval after shooting 11 wides in all in the half and 17 wides in all.  Rhode were must more clinical in the second half scoring 10 points and in the end the score line was 0-17 to 1-3.

 

Rhode Intermediate footballers dropped their first two in this years championship when they were defeated by Tullamore in Geashil on Sunday evening on a score line of 0-9 to 0-8.  The sides were level at the interval at six points apiece.

 

Rhode Under 14 footballers had a good win over St. Rynagh's on Wednesday in Cloghan when they recorded a 3-20 to 2-4 win.  Rhode will play Ballinamere/Durrow on August 5th with the winners going through to the quarter finals.

 

Rhode, St. Vincent's, St. Broughan's and Tullamore all played in the Under 12 Go Games competition on Tuesday evening last and a great few hours of football was played.  Thanks to all for organising the games especially to Stephen Darby and thanks to Olive Murphy and Pauric Murphy for referring the games.

There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto Draw that took place on the 20th of July for a Jackpot of €15,000.  The numbers drawn were 1 11 12 17.  The club would like to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to O'Toole's for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation.  The following matched three numbers and received €35 each.  Next week draw is in Killeens.

The Rhode GAA Lotto is the main source of income the club has and now you can play online though our website.  The good news is when you play the lotto online you are entitled to free draws, for example pay for seven draws receive the eighth one free, pay for fourteen draws receive two free and so on.  In other words, the more you play the more free draws you are entitled to!!

Get well wishes is extended to all the people of the parish who are ill or hospitalised at the moment especially to Brigie Kerrigan, Pa Byrne, Liam Swaine and Clair Quinn.

 

Sympathy is extended to the Murphy family on the death of Neddy (Red) whose remains were interred in St. Michael's cemetery Portarlington on Sunday.  He was a great GAA man for both Gracefield and Offaly.  May he rest in peace.
