Pat Flanagan admits last night's Leinster SFC first round loss to Longford is a big setback for Offaly football.

The Clara man looked to have turned the Faithful County's fortunes around when he guided them to a 13-point drubbing of the same opposition in last month's Allianz League Division 4 final but, in an amazing turnaround at O'Connor Park, Jack Sheedy's charges came from seven points down to win by three and earn a Croke Park date with Dublin at the end of the month.

"It's bitterly disappointing. There's no point in saying any different. We thought we were progressing after our League final performance. We felt that we were on the right road. But it proved that mentally, we're still a bit weak, the shell-shocked Offaly supremo is quoted in the Irish Independent.

"Because when the pressure came on, we crumbled, to be totally honest. There's no point in saying any different. When our backs were to the wall, we didn't dig deep enough."
