Rhode Senior footballers got their second brace points in this year's league when they recorded a 2-11 to 0-9 over Tullamore in Rhode on Sunday morning.  This game was well refereed by Martin Carthy.

 

The best of luck to St Mary's Secondary School Edenderry who play Good Council of Wexford in the Leinster Senior A Colleges Final on the 7th of March in Dr Cullen Park Carlow.  On the team and panel from the club are Dylan Kavanagh, Shane Lowry and Dan Molloy of St Brigid's who plays his underage football with Rhode Og.

 

The Rhode GAA Club dinner-dance and presentation night will take place in the Bridge House on Saturday 21st of March.  The meal will commence at 8pm sharp.  The presentation of the 2014 Offaly Senior football championship and the 2013 Under 21 championship medals won by our parish team St Michael's will be presented will by a special guest and music will be by the very popular band The Secrets.  There will be a drinks reception at 7.30 with the meal being served at 8pm sharp.  Tickets are priced at a very reasonable €25 and a great night is assured.  Tickets will be available for purchase from Friday and each Thursday night from 8pm to 9.30pm starting on 19th of February in Killeens or by contacting John Glennon 087 2715 804, Seamus Maguire 087 9553 520 or Patricia McManus 087 6812 860 or by contacting any of the committee.  Admission is by ticket only.

Offaly Senior hurlers got their league campaign in Division 1 B off to the prefect start when they recorded a 1-24 to 0-23 win over Laois in Portlaoise on Saturday night.  Offaly play Wexford in the second round of the league in O'Connor Park on Sunday at 2pm.

 

Membership of the Club is now due and can be paid to any of the committee members.  Fee's are the same as last year which are as follows

There was no winner of the Rhode GAA Lotto for the week ending 9nd of February for a Jackpot of €15,000.  The numbers drawn were 18 19 27 28  The club would like to thank all those who supported the draw and thanks to Doyle's for the use of their premises and for their help and cooperation.  The following matched three numbers and received €50 each.  Next week's draw is in O'Toole's

The Rhode GAA Lotto is the main source of income the club has and now you can play online though our website.  The good news is when you play the lotto online you are entitled to free draws, for example pay for seven draws receive the eighth one free, pay for fourteen draws receive two free and so on.  In other words, the more you play the more free draws you are entitled to!!

 

Sympathy is extended to the Gunning family of Laurencetown Rhode on the death on Mickey who passed away after a long illness.  Mickey was first and foremost a great family man and a great provider to Mairead and his children Tina, Catherine, Paula and Ger.  He was a tremendous worker and he worked with Bord Na Mona in his early years and then with the E.S.B in Rhode.  Mickey was also an excellent athlete and was a tremendous cross country runner where he represented Offaly at the highest level winning serval county championships Leister's.  It was however on the football field where Mickey excelled.  A tremendous underage player Mickey wore the Rhode and Offaly jersey with distinction.  He was wing-back on the all-conquering Rhode team of 1958 who beat Clara in the final.  During the late fiftieth he was also a member of the Offaly Senior football team and but for a serious leg injury in which his leg was broken curtailed his playing career and would have surely featured for Offaly senior team who won their first ever Senior Leinster title in 1960.  He was also a great seven a side player which was a very important at the time.  The community and Rhode GAA Club have lost a true and loyal friend.  Mickey was laid to rest in Rhode cemetery on Thursday club officials, members of the Rhode Club and old team mates formed a guard of honour at the removal on Wednesday evening and on Thursday at the burial.  May he Rest In Peace.  Sympathy is also extended to the Grattan family of Edenderry, the Scally family of Daingean and the Bronker family of Clonbullogue on their recent bereavements.  May they all Rest In Peace.
