U16 FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL
After the disappointment of losing the Championship Final Na Fianna U16 Footballers had an opportunity to capture another title in the Div 2 League Final against Rhode last Saturday afternoon in Cappincur and this time Na Fianna were not going to be denied as they led from start to finish and ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-08. Na Fianna were quickly out of the blocks as they got off the mark with the first 3 points from Ian and David (2) Buckley before Rhode opened their account  with a point on 8 mins. Na Fianna responded with 2 more points from Cathal Curran and Stephen Pierce. The sides then swapped a point apiece before Rhode had their best spell in the game in the last 10 mins of the half as they added 4 points to Na Fianna's 2 again from Cathal Curran and Stephen Pierce and so at the break Na Fianna were just shading it as they led 0-08 to 0-06. Na Fianna got the perfect start to the second half when inside the first min Stephen Pierce just outside the square jumped up superbly to catch a shot from midfield to pass it out to Joey Keenahan on the right wing who in turn sent it across to David Buckley on the left side of the square and he buried it past the keeper into the top right corner of the net for the first goal. Within a min Rhode tapped over a point for their first score of the second half but Na Fianna replied with 2 more points from Joey keenahan and Colin Keogh. Then on 10 mins Na Fianna nearly wrapped it up when David Buckley's goal bound shot came back off the upright and in the play that followed Rhode were dealt a blow when their centre forward Dan Molloy picked up a bad knee injury and had to be stretchered off. Just after play resumed Conor Langton tagged on another Na Fianna point but then on 20 mins Joey Keenahan picked up a 2nd yellow reducing Na Fianna to 14 players for the last 10 mins and Rhode capitalised on it 2 mins later when they got in to score a goal. Any hope of a Rhode comeback were quashed when David Buckley and Conor Langton fired over Na Fianna's final 2 points with 5 mins left and though Rhode scored the final point deep in stoppage time it was just a consolation score. Then on the final whistle Coiste na Nog Chairman and fellow Na Fianna clubman Pauric Pierce was on on hand to present the winning Shield to a delighted Na Fianna captain Adam Kelly.
