Rhode GAA club notes

October 28, 2014

Rhode Senior footballers qualified for the quarter final of the Leinster Club Championship when they had a 2-9 to 0-10 win over St. Patrick's of Louth in O'Connor Park on Sunday.  Rhode started well and led by 1-3 to 0-4 in the opening 17 minutes the goal coming from Anton Sullivan and points from Niall McNamee, Niall Darby and Rhode led at the interval 1-6 to 0-5.  Rhode got their second goal on 52nd minute from Conor McNamee.  Before the game a minutes silence was observed for the St. Patrick's player Eamon Carroll who died on the 30th of September just two after the Louth county final.  All at the Rhode club send their deepest sympathy to the Carroll family and the St. Patrick's GAA Club.  May he Rest In Peace.  Rhode now play the Meath champions Naven O'Mahonys in two week's time in O'Connor Park.  Well done also to the Shamrocks in the Leinster Junior hurling championship they had a good 3-6 to 0-6 win over Clontraf in the first round. They will play a Carlow team in O'Connor Park in two weeks.

The best of luck to the Kilcormac/Killoughey senior hurlers who play Shelmaliers of Wexford in Wexford Park on Sunday.

The best of luck also to the Raheen intermediate footballers who play Ballinlough of Meath on Sunday at a Meath venue.

John Glennon, Robert Kellaghan, Ken Gerry, Michael McNamee, Niall Murphy and Vivian Grennan all attended the launch of the Leinster football and hurling championship at the Irish Stud and Japanese Gardens in Kildare on Saturday.  It was a great day out and a great venture by the Leinster Council.

Congratulations and many more years of health, wealth and happiness is extended to to former Rhode player and excellent club man Declan Gorman who celebrated his 40th birthday on Saturday night with his family and friends in Killeen.

The Rhode GAA Annual General Meeting is provisionally fixed for the 5th of December in Rhode Hall at 7.30pm.  All members and interested members are requested to attend.

The Offaly GAA county convention will take place in the meeting room in O'Connor Park under the stand on Tuesday 9th of December.  The Rhode delegates for the convention will be elected at the clubs AGM which take places on Friday 5th of December in Rhode Hall.

Get well wished is extended to all the people of the parish who are ill or hospitalised at the moment especially to great Rhode supporter Minnie Owens who had a fall during the week and is in hospital at the moment.

Congratulations and well done to Rhode's flat jockey Pat Smullen who for the seventh time in his career on Saturday at Leopardstown was crowned Irish Flat Racing Champion Jockey.  This is a remarkable achievement for Pat who is an excellent ambassador for his family, for the Rhode parish and for the county of Offaly.  The Smellen family are also great supporters of all Rhode and Offaly teams and all at Rhode GAA send congratulations to Pat.
