INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Raheen and Shamrocks will have to do it all over again to decide the winners of the 2014 Intermediate Football Championship as the Final finished level first time out last Saturday in O'Connor Pk, Tullamore 0-12 to 1-09 with the draw probably proving to be the fairest result as both sides having led during the second half. Raheen got off to a lightning start to the first half as they opened the scoring with the first 3 points inside 5 mins before Shamrocks got off the mark with their first point. Raheen then added 2 more points over the next 5 mins and they looked to be on fire but incredibly they would not score again in the first half despite having chances. Shamrocks kept themselves in touch with 2 points together in the 23rd min and so at the break Raheen led 0-05 to 0-03. Raheen may have got the good start to the first half but the tables were turned as Shamrocks stormed out of the blocks at the start of the second half as they sent over the first 3 points before being awarded a penalty on 3 mins which Nigel Dunne's shot for the top corner of the net went high and over the bar.Raheen then steadied the ship as over the next 15 mins they hit over 4 points with 2 points for Shamrocks sandwiched in between which left it level. Then over the next 10 mins Raheen added 3 points in a row to put themselves within sight of the finish line but in the 28th min a speculative shot by Shamrocks was blocked on the line by Raheen's Liam Boland and his clearance was intercepted by Shamrock's Scott Delaney who found himself in the clear and he struck the ball to the net for the only goal to level it again. Then in stoppage time Raheen were awarded a free about 45m out to win it, taken by Paddy Rigney whose shot dropped short but was caught by Dyland Hyland on the end line and his spectacular overhead shot went just wide of the post. From the reslutant kickout referee David Walsh blew the final whistle.
