Edenderry sweating on captain

Edenderry captain Richie Dalton

Edenderry captain Richie Dalton is facing a battle to be fit for Sunday's Offaly SFC final against Rhode.

The highly-rated midfielder, who skippered the Reds to their last Dowling Cup success in 2011, suffered a recurrence of a shoulder injury in the semi-final win over Gracefield a fortnight ago, and is a major doubt for this weekend's showpiece game.

"I hurt it in a challenge match about three weeks ago and I haven't trained really since," he explained to the Tullamore Tribune.

"I was carrying an injury into the game. I suppose we might have thought I'd get through it, but obviously I didn't. I just have to rest it now and hopefully by Sunday it will be right."

Dalton, who hasn't played for Offaly since being controversially dropped in 2013, has refused to be drawn on whether he will be making his services available to incoming manager Pat Flanagan.

"I haven't even thought that far ahead to be honest. I am focusing on Edenderry at the minute and this is where I want to be and Sunday is all am I thinking about," he added.
