MINORS THROUGH TO S/F Edenderry 2-05 Shamrocks 0-07
The EDEN CLAIMS sponsored Edenderry Minor Football team travelled to Geashill on a wet Sunday evening to play a Shamrocks side that held the upper hand over them after their victory in last year's Minor County final.   Extremely adverse weather conditions ensured that Shamrocks played with a very strong wind in the first half. For Edenderry the opening period was all about work rate and battling which they did, allowing Shamrocks to score only two points with the wind. As half time approached Alex Kenny scored a valuable point which meant that Edenderry headed for the dressing rooms in arrears 0-02 to 0-01.   Edenderry started the second half in lightening fashion as Alex Kenny and Jordan Hayes worked a short free on the right hand side with Hayes scything through, selling a beautiful dummy to take two Shamrocks defenders out of the game and finishing with a powerful low shot to the net. Edenderry then added some well worked team scores with Ciaran Farrell applying the finishing touches. Shamrocks answered back with a couple of scores of their own but Edenderry's work rate and attitude didn't drop and they added further scores from Lee Hyland (goal) and two brilliant points by Alex Kenny.   On an evening where the work rate & application from 1 to 15 was superb it is very hard to single out any individual player.  From Cain Brereton's control of his backline right through to the tackling and hard work from the forwards. Everyone involved will be delighted with this result but will also know they have a lot more work to do if they are meet the future challenges.   Final score Edenderry 2-05 Shamrocks 0-07 SENIORS BACK IN COUNTY FINAL - LIVE ON TG4 The 2014 JV BYRNE sponsored Senior Footballers have brought County Final Fever to the Town. Edenderry will play their 16th Final this Sunday, of the previous 15 Senior Finals played in the Reds won 10 and lost 5. The first win coming in 1936 and the last in 2011. Edenderry and Rhode played out some dramatic finals in the late 90's and early 00's. Rhode won out in 1998, but Edenderry came back and won 1999 and 2001 both in replays. Into the last week we are delighted with all the support for local business owners and households. The Reds have got their colours out and we are encouraging even more businesses, schools, households and all premises to get their colours out for the final. Our players have been working hard all year and really appreciate the support of the local community. Dermot Byrne and members of the Community Employment Scheme have been quick off the mark and begun erecting flags and bunting early last week. Their help and assistance is much appreciated. Although the game will be live on TG4 we would encourage as many people from Edenderry as possible to attend the game and cheer on the team. CLUB SHOP OPEN Our 2014 CLUB SHOP will open this week on JKL St. in the old Conlon's Shop Premises (across from Brady's).
