SENIORS BACK IN COUNTY FINAL

The 2014 JV BYRNE sponsored Senior Footballers returned to the County Final for the first time since 2011 after overcoming a typically tenacious and resolute Gracefield side.

Victorious on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-09 Edenderry were made to work incredibly hard for the win and the result was in doubt right up to the final few moments. As is to be expected in a Semi Final, considering the prize at stake, the exchanges were teak tough and the loss of Richie Dalton & Ciaran Hurley through injury certainly did not help matters.

However standout performances from Sean Pender, Stephen Guing and Derek Kelly eventually steered the Reds back to the County Final where they will face old rivals Rhode in what will be Edenderry's 16th County Final.  Of the previous 15 Senior Finals played in the Reds won 10 and lost 5.  The first win coming in 1936 and the last in 2011.  Edenderry and Rhode played out some dramatic finals in the late 90's and early 00's.  Rhode won out in 1998, but Edenderry came back and won 1999 and 2001 both in replays.

With the final in two weeks the club are encouraging all businesses, schools, households and all premises to get their colours out for the final. Our players have been working hard all year and really appreciate the support of the local community.

Dermot Byrne and members of the Community Employment Scheme have been quick off the mark and begun erecting flags and bunting first thing Monday morning.  Their help and assistance is much appreciated.

Our 2014 CLUB SHOP will open this week on JKL St. in the old Conlon's Shop Premises (across from Brady's).  Please feel free to drop in to purchase your colours, watch a DVD of games gone by or for a cuppa and a chat.

U10 FOOTBALL BLITZ
Edenderry GAA and U10 management would like to thank all who help out last Saturday from the refs and the parents for refreshments and all other helpers it was a great club effort and the way forward for the club.  The management team would like to thank all the parents of the children, they have been a joy to coach all year and you should be proud of them as they are most mannerly and hardworking team any coach could have.  We in the GAA are very proud of them and looking forward to next year.  Up The Young Reds.

U9 GIRLS FOOTBALL

With 16 players travelling to Newbridge, on Thursday last we are now developing a strong core squad that has shown huge improvements over the past few weeks.  Although we had a slow start vs Sarsfields U9 with an experimental line-up and suffering from Away Day Travel Fatigue (ADTF...patent pending) it soon began to click. With (moderately) quick passing movement throughout the pitch soon Edenderry were racking up the scores with waves of attack. A very even game between two well matched teams was a joy to watch for all the supporters.  An intense game in which there was some tough tackling (and one tooth knocked out....) it showed everyone present how much the u9 team has come along since being formed only 4 weeks ago. Well done to all the girls and manager Barry Maher. Next game is against St. Laurence's on 4th October.

U11 GIRLS FOOTBALL
Our wonderful Under 11 girls who had a great win against Sarsfields of Newbridge last Friday. Well done girls.

BEST WISHES TO CILLIAN LOWRY
