MINOR TABLE TOPPERS
Edenderry 2-10
St. Vincent's 0-16
The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored Edenderry Minor Footballers topped their group with a hard earned draw with St Vincent's in a very well prepared Ballycommon pitch.
In terms of the game the first half was mainly one to forget for Edenderry as they went 9 points to 1 down. This was mainly due to a number of handling errors and sloppy turnovers allowing St Vincent's to supply their forwards and especially their no 15 with a lot of ball. After 20 minutes Edenderry introduced Cian Farrell and straightaway he kicked a brilliant point from the right hand side with his left foot, this seemed to spur Edenderry into action just before half time and they started to establish a foothold in the game.
The second half started just as the first half had ended with Edenderry changing their attitude and upping their work rate. Cian Farrell scored a good goal when he out jumped two St Vincent's defenders to fist the ball into the net. The Reds now looked a completely different team from the first half as they began to increase their commitment in the tackle which made life increasingly difficult for St Vincent's, none more so than Eoin Farrell at centre back.
Vincent's looked to be going 3 points up when Farrell came from nowhere to put in a brilliant block on the Vincent's player, the ball was turned over and Edenderry moved the ball nicely up the field and into the hands of Lee Hyland whose powerful shot went straight to the net to put Edenderry 1 point up.
St Vincent's showed what a good team they are with a couple of good scores to go back into the lead by one. It looked like Vincent's were going to take all the points but a great team move involving Paddy Rickard, Kalem Connell , Jordan Hayes ended with Cian Farrell hitting a brilliant point to draw level.
Edenderry will be happy to get a draw and to come back from being 8 points down shows good character but they will know another start to a game like the one on Sunday morning won't be good enough in the ¼ final.
In terms of performances Cian Farrell was the standout forward on the pitch scoring 1-05 and Eoin Farrell was outstanding at centre back.
Scorers: Cian Farrell 1-05 Lee Hyland 1-0 Alex Kenny 0-2 Jordan Hayes 0-1 Ciaran Farrell 0-2
U14's BOW OUT AT Q/F STAGE
Edenderry 1-09
Ferbane/Belmont 7-10
The EDEN CLAIMS Sponsored Edenderry U14 Footballers ended their season in Ballinamere suffering a heavy defeat to Ferbane/Belmont.
The score line does not reflect the efforts of this hard working side and they have been on the road since March of this year with plenty of football under their belts. They finished second in the league earlier this year, to Ferbane, and travelled to the Regional Feile in Cork to represent Edenderry & Offaly.
Many of the squad are underage next year and hopefully they will learn from this overall experience. Many thanks to the Management of Ken Breen, Mickey Usher & Cormac Nolan, to all the parents for their support and of the course the players for all their efforts throughout the year.
FOOTY FUN CLASSIC
The Footy Fun Classic at Highfield Golf Club was a great success. With nearly 100 participants the day was very enjoyable. The game looked easier than it played and all of the players learned a lot about the distance and accuracy of their kicking. Many thanks to all at Highfield Golf Club for their help with the event and to Willie Forde, Mag Kenny & Bernie Gorman for running the event. Overall the experience was very enjoyable and the club will certainly run a similar event next year.
U10 FOOTBALL BLITZ
This Saturday 27th of September sees Edenderry host a huge U10 Football Blitz with teams travelling for all neighbouring Counties. In all 12 teams will participate and will give the Edenderry U10's an opportunity to pit themselves against the best teams around. The action commences at 11am and is expected to finish at 2pm. This will truly be a festival of football and members and supporters are encouraged to get down and see the future players of the club excel in some super games.
