Two of Brian Cody's most trusted lieutenants are set to play key roles in a Leinster Council initiative to restore Offaly as a top hurling county.

Those among the large attendance at last night's Offaly Hurling Forum in the County Arms Hotel in Birr heard that Martin Fogarty and Mick Dempsey are to lend their expertise to the Faithful County. Fogarty, who was Cody's right-hand man up until last year, will help to train coaches in Offaly, while current Kilkenny selector Dempsey will assist with strength and conditioning coach training.

Last night's meeting was the first step in identifying the reasons why Offaly hurling has declined, coming up with solutions through a master plan and identifying the key people to implement it.
