An initiative to restore Offaly as a top hurling county will begin next Wednesday when a public forum will take place in the County Arms Hotel, Birr at 8pm.

Kilkenny native Diarmuid Healy, who guided Offaly to their first Liam MacCarthy Cup success in 1981, will head up the Leinster Council initiative. The meeting will be the first steps in identifying the reasons why Offaly hurling has declined, coming up with solutions through a master plan and identifying the key people to implement it.

A special committee, which is chaired by Kieran Keenaghan (St Rynagh's) and includes Pat Cleary (Ballinamere), Joe Errity (Birr), Cillian Farrell (Edenderry), Martin Hanamy (St Rynagh's), Liam Hogan (Ballyboden St Enda's and formerly Coolderry), Finian McDermott (Tullamore), Damien Martin (St Rynagh's), Pat O'Connor( Coolderry) and Healy, has been set up to implement the plans.

The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in putting their ideas forward with regard to the recovery process are asked to attend.
