Offaly SHC: five teams into quarter-finals

Five of the eight quarter-final places in the race for the Sean Robbins Cup have been filled.

Three-in-a-row chasing Kilcormac /Killoughey kept their perfect record intact in Group 2 when they saw off Brosna Gaels' brave challenge on a 2-16 to 0-10 scoreline. Coolderry are also through from the same section after getting back to winning ways with a 0-26 to 2-6 drubbing of Belmont, as are Seir Kieran, who hammered Drumcullen by 4-29 to 1-5 in Banagher last night.

James Mulrooney top-scored for the Clareen men with 2-2, while Offaly captain Joe Bergin posted 0-7.

St. Rynagh's and Shinrone are safely through from Group 2, with Birr and Ballinamere favourites to join them. Rynagh's thumped last year's intermediate winners 3-22 to 1-11 on Friday night, while Joachim Kelly's Shinrone were held to a 0-14 to 1-11 draw by Tullamore.

Two late Eoin Cahill points secured a 1-18 to 1-14 victory for Birr over Kinnitty, who are now facing a battle to avoid relegation.
