U16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Our Eden Claims sponsored U16 footballers played Shamrocks last Sunday evening in Ballyfore due to our own pitch being unavailable. Credit to Ballyfore for the immaculate condition of the pitch and it is greatly appreciated.
This was a must win game for both teams and the tension was palpable with the players and the travelling supporters beforehand. We suffered a blow before the game started with Garry Farrell suffering a knee injury but the reds started with electric pace and scored 4 goals in the first 10 minutes. With Jack , Cian twice and Connor hitting the net, this was down to great work being done out the field by the midfielders Andy and Eoin. Our forwards were having it all their own way with Ronan and Sean making vital tackles and runs, keeping the opposition on the backfoot, but credit to Shamrocks they picked off some impressive points from distance. In the backs, the ever dependable Adao, Steven and Oisin on top of their men and Tadgh, Sean and Craig holding their own we went in at halftime 4-02 to 0-07 ahead.
The second half was a different story with Shamrocks getting a run on us after an exchange of points. Shamrocks got a goal and it was game on. We struggled to get to grips with the pace that Shamrocks brought out in the second half and with couple of lads getting knocks, we had a game on our hands. After having a comfortable lead we were behind by 2 points with 8 minutes left but our lads dug deep and Cian, Jack and Brian hit the groove and moved the ball beautifully and Cian finished a great move with a delightful point. This was going to the wire and the tremendous effort that the lads put in training in last week was going to stand to them and we drew level. It looked like a draw was on the cards and probably would have been a fair result but up steped substitute Ross Glynn who got his hands on the ball and bore down on the Shamrocks goal and calmly slotted the ball over the bar to secure the win.Edenderry 5-06 Shamrocks 3-11
This was a tough game and will stand to the young reds who showed all the hallmarks of a team that are deserved table toppers of the group. Credit has to be given to them for their commitment and dedication to stick together after a disappointing league and turn it around to the point they are at now.

U10 Hurlers host Offaly GAA Blitz

An Under 10 HURLING BLITZ was held at Edenderry GAA with visiting teams from BROSNA GAELS, SHAMROCK'S,CLARA,BALLINAMERE-DURROW.

1ST game for the reds was against a very good side in CLARA and it was very much a game of two halfs!!!!
with a stiff breeze aiding a good puckout the keeper's were very busy men...... despite everything the bounce of the sliothar caught the lads/lassie's out on both side with our first touch a little off....but come the 2nd half and with time trickling by the REDZ soon found there groove....Cormac Burke was belting out long balls and finding the full-forwards!!!!! while our midfield battled gamely and got stuck in at each opportunity.....we started slow but as the match progressed we got it together....thankfully we had subs to come in when the hits came, and they did!!!!!!
super subs Shauna Burke and Hannah Mullally certainly had the boys on there toes!!!! the management duo of john mcdonnell and micheal monaghan didnt waste time in using there panel when required.....Very encouraged with a panel turnout of 16 on the night....FINAL SCORE EDENDERRY 2-3 V CLARA 3-4

2nd game v SHAMROCK'S was a dogged affair with nothing between the teams....they say goals win matches and in this case was very true!!! by now the wind stiffend alot and with spells of rain the teams first touch eluded them at times but this team never knows when to quit and again when required the subs got stuck in and did what was asked by their coaches which was to fight and never give in.....Just as in the first game as time ticked by and the half drawing to a close up popped goal scoring machine Aaron Kennedy founfd the back of the net to leave the H/T score 1-0 in favour of the REDS.......The 2nd half continued the trend and despite it all SHAMROCK'S found the back of the net....when it seemed that a draw was a fair result and from out of the blue Dan McBride amongst a scrum of hurleys pulled on the sliothar when it came loose and in it went to the obvious relief of everyone in the stands of whom through out the evening encouraged there sibling's..
FINAL SCORE EDENDERRY 2-0 V1-0 SHAMROCKS........
