Some of the greats of Offaly and Kilkenny hurling will be trying to break the world record for the number of ham sandwiches made in one hour before the counties' meeting in the Leinster SHC quarter-final on Sunday, June 9 in Tullamore.

Michael Duignan, Joe Dooley and Eddie Brennan will be among those who will take part in the world record attempt in the Tullamore GAA Centre (which is situated directly across the road from O'Connor Park). Supporters of both counties are also being given the opportunity to take part in the unique charity event which is being co-hosted by Offaly sponsors Carroll's, Offaly GAA, Club Faithful and Irish Autism Action.

Supporters will also be able to make a donation to Irish Autism Action when the sandwiches are served up before the throw-in. The current world record for the number of sandwiches made in one hour is 1,686.

Autism Action Ireland's Niall Murphy, who served as Offaly GAA PRO last year, told the Tullamore Tribune: "We are hoping for big crowds on Sunday, June 9 to help support our mission of bringing positive change into the lives of those affected by autism. The first thing is come down to Tullamore GAA Club for midday to help us break the world record! We will also have an information stand for any parents who have questions around autism and neuro-developmental disorders."
