U13 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SHIELD SEMI FINAL

This year’s playing campaign for Na Fianna U13 Football No 1 Team came to an end last Friday evening as they lost out to Edenderry in the Shield Semi Final in Geashill on a scoreline of 3-16 to 3-10 in an exciting game that went all the way to extra time. The first half was a tight affair with Na Fianna just shading it 0-06 to 0-05. Edenderry got off to a flying start to the second half scoring 1-03 within 7 mins of the re-start before Na Fianna struck back on 9 mins with their first goal scored direct from a 45 by Aaron Rattigan. Over the next 15 mins Edenderry restored their 6 point lead scoring 1-02 to Na Fianna’s 1 point. Then came a dramatic last 5 mins with Na Fianna scoring their second goal on 27 mins when Eoin Dunne’s shot came off the crossbar with Ryan Kinahan pouncing on the rebound to bang it to the net, both sides then added a point apiece before Na Fianna struck for the equaliser 2 mins into stoppage time with their 3rd goal when in a goalmouth scramble Aaron Rattigan found the space to slot his shot to the net. This left it tied 3-08 to 2-11 at full time meaning extra time was necessary and in the first half of the extra time Edenderry again pulled clear scoring 1-03 to Na Fianna’s 1 point but unfortunately this time a recovery for the 4th time by Na Fianna did not happen as the second half of extra time saw Edenderry score 2 points to Na Fianna’s 1 and so Edenderry claimed the win on a 6 point margin and a place  in the final.
