U13 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL

Na Fianna U13 Football No 1 Team saw their Championship aspirations quashed as Kilcormac / Killoughey came from behind with a blistering last 10 mins to snatch victory in the A Championship Quarter Final last Wednesday week in O’Brien Pk, Tullamore on a scoreline of 4-08 to 2-10. Na Fianna players from 1 to 15 showed great heart and determination as they gave it their all from start to finish. Na Fianna were first off the mark with a point followed by the opening goal inside the first min when Conor Bracken’s shot from the left wing was punched to the net by Ryan Kinahan. K/K opened their account with their first goal on 3 mins but this was wiped out immediately by Na Fianna’s second goal a fine individual solo run through the middle by Conor Bracken. That completed the first half goal scoring as Na Fianna added 5 points K/K’s 4 points so at half time it was Na Fianna on top with a 5 point lead 2-06 to 1-04. K/K opened the scoring in the second half with their 2nd goal on 6 mins with Na Fianna responding with 2 points. Then on 13 mins K/K struck the post twice but could not be stopped from scoring their third goal with the third attempt. Yet again Na Fianna responded with another 2 points to give them a 3 point lead with 10 mins remaining but this would prove to be their last score as a pointed free followed by their 4th goal on 23 mins put K/K in front for the first time and from there they pushed on adding another 3 points to claim the 4 point win.

MINOR A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL

Na Fianna Minor Footballers are through to the Minor A Football Championship FINAL after claiming victory over neighbours St Vincents in the Semi Final last Saturday evening in Gracefield on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-08 having led from start to finish including withstanding a late rally by St Vincents. Na Fianna’s appearance in this year’s final will be only the second time ever that the Killeigh parish has been represented in the decider and the first time since 1974 when St Mary’s claimed the one and only victory for the parish. In the semi final last Saturday played in a torrential downpour throughout Na Fianna lived up to their favourites tag as they maintained their 100% winning record in Championship and League this year having previously won 4 out 4 in the Championship group stage. Na Fianna got going straight from the off opening the scoring with Jacob Beatty’s pointed free inside the first min with St Vincents also getting off the mark with a point from a placed ball a minute later converted by Brian Darcy. This would be the first and last time in the game the sides would be level as Na Fianna took control scoring 6 points without reply over the next 15 mins to complete their first half tally from Morgan Tynan (2), David McElduff, James Nolan, Barry Crombie & Jacob Beatty. St Vincents had to wait until the 28th & 31st mins to score their next 2 points to leave it 0-07 to 0-03 in favour of Na Fianna at the break. Na Fianna moved into double figures on the scoreboard with the first 3 points of the second half within 8 mins of the re-start from Adam Mangan, Ryan Strong and Morgan Tynan. St Vincents opened their second half account with a pointed free on 9 mins before Na Fianna responded with another 3 points over the next 10 mins from Morgan Tynan, Adam Mangan & Jacob Beatty. Then in the final 10 mins St Vincents mounted a comeback scoring 4 points to Na Fianna’s 1 from James Nolan before scrambling a goal 2 mins into stoppage time from substitute David Bracken to cut the defecit to just 3 points but it came too late with the final whistle blown just 30 seconds later.
