Ballycumber GAA Club notes

October 01, 2019

Ballycumber GAA Club.

Tullamore Court Hotel Senior B Football Championship Semi Final.

Ballycumber 1—11  Durrow 0---13.

A point from a 40m free by Cormac Quinn secured the well deserved victory for Ballycumber in a tense battle with Durrow in Bord na Mona O’Connor Park on Sunday. Joe Lowry opened the scoring with a point from play. Durrow replied with a similar score from a free. Clive Keena sent a teasing ball across the face of the Durrow goal and Joe Lowry just failed to make contact to put the ball in the net. Adrian Kelly was fouled for a free that Joe Lowry sent over the bar. Durrow scored the next five points and looked likely winners. As he has done many times before, Karl Daly drove forward and exchanged passes with Gary Larkin to put Cormac Quinn in position to drive the ball to the back of the Durrow net. Luke Gavin Mangan received a pass from Gary Larkin and stroked the ball over the bar to draw the side’s level. Durrow regained the lead with a point from a free approaching half time.

Adrian Kelly was in outstanding form in the early stages of the second half and kicked three points. On each occasion Durrow replied with two points from play and one from a free. Joe Lowry scored a point from play and Adrian Kelly brought the sides level with a well taken point.  A point from play and another from a free restored the two point lead for Durrow. Again Joe Lowry was on target with a point from a free and Adrian Kelly brought the sides level again with a point from play. As both sides strived for the winning score, the Ballycumber defence stood firm with Alan Flanagan and Donal Lynam in “ thou shall not pass “ mood and the introduction of Sean Hackett, Nigel Grennan for the outstanding Karl Daly, who was given a round of applause by the attendance as he left the field and the hard running Marcus Keena all contributing to the final push for a winning score. Eventually a free was awarded to Ballycumber about 40m from the Park Avenue goals. Cormac Quinn coolly kicked the ball from the ground and straight over the “ black spot” for the winner.

Ballycumber will now face Bracknagh in the County Final in Bord na Mona O’Connor Park on Saturday 12th October at 2pm and all the hard work throughout the year is having its reward.
