Ballycumber GAA Club notes

August 06, 2019

Tullamore Court Hotel Senior B Football Championship Round 2.

Tubber 1---17   Ballycumber 2---10.

A four point defeat that felt like a wider margin was Ballycumber’s reward for a poor performance against Tubber in Clara on Saturday evening. This was a tame and lack lustre game played in very wet conditions. Ballycumber got off to the perfect start with a goal by Cormac Quinn and points from Gary Larkin and Emmet Kelly. Tubber’s hand passing game with support runners got them back into the match and they drew level at 1—2 to 0—5. A great pass by Nigel Grennan found Joe Lowry unmarked in front of the goals and he made no mistake by putting the ball in the net. The sides swapped points and with half time approaching Ballycumber led by two points. A defensive error allowed Tubber through for a goal and the lead which they didn’t surrender and they added two points to leave the score at the break 1—10 to 2—4.

Playing up the pitch in the second half Ballycumber were always playing catch, the introduction of substitutes added greatly to the strength of the team. Sean Hackett kicked three very well taken points and Karl Daly as usual drove forward at every opportunity. Adrian Kelly had a good shot tipped over the crossbar and Tom Corcoran won the ball at midfield. The second half total was completed by points from frees by Joe Lowry and Cormac Quinn. Tubber added seven points to their total and ran out worthy winners.

Ballycumber will play Ferbane in the next round.
