Na Fianna club notes

U13 FOOTBALL LEAGUE RD 1

Na Fianna U13 Footballers were unlucky not to hold on to claim a win in their first game of 2019 as Tullamore snatched the win in Rd 1 of the Div 1 League last Tuesday week in O’Brien Pk, Tullamore on a scoreline of 2-08 to 3-03 on a biterly cold and wet evening. Na Fianna got off to a dream start opening the scoring with 3 goals inside the first 10 mins from Ryan Kinahan (2) and Kevin Healy followed by a point midway through the half from Colm Nolan. Tullamore did manage to get off the mark before the break with 1-01 so at half time Na Fianna led by 6 points 3-01 to 1-01. With the wind on their backs in the second half Tullamore clawed their way back into it scoring 5 points to Na Fianna’s 2 before drawing level with a goal from a 20m free with 5 mins remaining and this gave them the momentum to push on to claim the win with 2 points in the last couple of minutes.

NA FIANNA: Donnocha Keoghan, Jack Fox, Finn Hassett, Evan Gorman, Sean Cuskelly, Rory Grehan, Ronan Hooper, Eoin Dunne, Conor Bracken, Dara Grehan, Cillian Murphy, Colm Nolan (0-01), Luke Keenan, Ryan Kinahan (2-01), Kevin Healy (1-01).

U14 FOOTBALL FEILE BLITZ WEEKEND

Na Fianna U14 Footballers took part in the Offaly Feile Blitz last weekend from which the Offaly representatives for the 2019 All Ireland Feile Peil na Nog qualified.  Na Fianna were drawn in Grp 4 which saw them head to the Gracefield venue on Saturday where their opponents were Gracefield, Rhode & Ballinamere/Durrow and this was the order of the games for Na Fianna. The games played under full Feile rules including 15 mins halves. First up was Gracefield and it was the ideal start for Na Fianna as they led from start to finish winning on a full time scoreline of 4-10 to 0-04 having led at the break 3-05 to 0-02. Next up was Rhode who claimed the win on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-02 having led at the break by 1-07 to 1-00 with the Na Fianna goal dispatched from the penalty spot by Ryan Kinahan but it was injuries to a few crucial Na Fianna players which was a contributing factor in the defeat. The third and final game was against Ballinamere/Durrow and this saw Na Fianna stage a great recovery in the second half having trailed at the break 2-05 to 1-01 to draw level 2-05 apiece with just a couple of mins left with the goal a spectacular shot from the endline by Brian Connolly but then B/D snatched it with 2 late points from their big man Dan Ravenhill. With Rhode winning all 3 of their games and B/D also beating Gracefield this saw Na Fianna finish third in the group behind Rhode & B/D and so qualify for the Div 3 S/F on Sunday in the Faithful Fields, Kilcormac against St Manchan Gaels. Unfortunately the St Manchans side they met were well capable of competing for the Div 1 title and so Na Fianna did not stand a chance as 2 goals inside the first 30 secs setup a comfortable win for St Manchans on a scoreline of 5-13 to 1-02 with the Na Fianna goal scored by Dan Daly. St Manchans opponents in the final were St Vincents and this proved to be a much closer affair but St Manchans still won it on a scoreline of 1-07 to 0-06. Congratulations also to the other divisional winners Edenderry (Div 1), K/K (Div 2) & Gracefield (Div 4) as they go on to represent Offaly in the All Ireland Feile Peil na Nog.
