New Offaly football manager John Maughan has secured the services of Kilmacud Crokes forward Shane Horan under the GAA's parentage rule.

According to the Irish Daily Mirror, Horan's father Aidan is from Ballycumber while his mother Helen hails from Rath.

The 27-year-old, who featured in Crokes' run to last month's Leinster club SFC final which they sensationally lost to Mullinalaghta, is expected to make his Offaly debut against Carlow in the O'Byrne Cup tomorrow after his transfer was officially completed on January 1.

It's a welcome boost for Maughan who recently expressed disappointment at the number of players who turned down invitations to join the panel.

Back in 2010, former Dublin minor and St Sylvester's clubman John Coughlan declared for the Faithful County, but failed to make an impact.
