Ballycumber GAA Club notes

September 04, 2018

Tullamore Court Hotel Senior B Football Championship.

Ballycumber 0-11 St Rynaghs 0-5.

Ballycumber have qualified for the semi final of the Senior B championship on the strength of winning five of the seven games in the group stages. The latest victory was against a depleted St Rynaghs team in Doon on Thursday evening.

Ballycumber had the perfect start to the game with Michael Egan and Tom Corcoran on top at midfield, the forwards had a plentiful supply of the ball. Colin Daly opened the scoring with a point from play. Adrian Kelly added two more with one from a free after a foul on Clive Keena. St Rynaghs were offering a very stiff defence and Ballycumber were forced into a lot of passing. On too many occasions the ball was lost in the tackle or was kicked wide. A long scoreless period followed before Adrian Kelly received a pass from John Corcoran and recorded his third point of the game. A rare St Rynaghs attack resulted in a point from play and two minutes later they got their second point from county player Joe O'Connor. Ballycumber got back on top and had a number of missed scoring opportunities. On the stroke of half time John Corcoran converted a 45 to leave the score at half time at 0-5 to 0-2.

As he had done at the start of the game Colin Daly got the first point of the second half. St Rynaghs quickly responded with a point from a free. The introduction of Chris McDonald and Fergal Daly was having the desired effect and the direct running at the St Rynaghs backline resulted in a number of frees which were converted by Cormac Quinn and Sean Hackett. St Rynaghs added two points to their total to leave the final score 0-11 to 0-5.
