Intermediate Football
Tullamore travelled to Killurin to face Kilcormac/Killoughey in the Intermediate Championship last Wednesday evening.
With both teams badly needing a win it was the Blues who got off to the best of starts with a goal from the returning from injury Conor Finlay inside the opening minute.
Both midfielders Diarmuid Egan and Mel Rowland chipped in with a point each either side of a Mickey Hoey point before Paul Norton and Pat Fahey raised white flags to give Tullamore a 1-5 to 1-3 lead going in at the break having played against a strong wind in the opening half.
The second half saw both sides getting some fine points to keep the score board ticking over with Tullamores scores coming from Egan (2), Norton and Hoey to  give Tullamore a 1-9 to 1-4 lead heading into the last 10minutes. The Double K's would miss some wonderful scoring opportunity's through out the second period including a penalty which was well saved by Tullamore keeper Eoin Griffin, But 1-1 in a short period managed to get KK level heading into the last 4 minutes of the game. 2 points in a row from Mark Hayes along with two KK scores kept things level, but it would be the Tullamore side who would finish strongest with two Kevin Williamson points either side of a score from sub Shane Martin to give Tullamore a three point lead at the full-time whistle.
Although it was a great win Tullamore will know there's a lot of improvement needed heading into their last two games against Doon and Ballycommon.
On a more positive note it was great to see Kieran Hogan make his championship return after an 8 year absence in the Blue Jersey.
Eoin Griffin; Pat Fahey (0-1), John Hickey, Eoghan Geoghegan; Seamus Allen, Dylen Hensey, Damian English; Mel Rowland (0-1), Diarmuid Egan (0-3); Conor Finlay (1-0), Mark Hayes (0-2), Luke Plunkett; Kevin Williamson (0-2), Mickey Hoey (0-2) Paul Norton (0-2)... Subs used: Tommy Fleming, Shane Martin (0-1), Peter Fox (0-1) Kieran Hogan, Gary Leavy.
