SENIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP RD 5

Unfortunately Raheen Senior Footballers missed out on the win which would have secured a place in the knockout stage of the Championship as Tubber claimed the points in their Rd 5 encounter of the Senior B Championship last Saturday evening on a scoreline of 2-09 to 1-10. Raheen were first off the mark with the opening 2 points inside the first min, Tubber then opened their account as both sides put over a point apiece before Tubber struck for their first goal on 4 mins from midfielder Shane Kinahan. Over the next 10 mins both sides added 2 points apiece with both Tubber's scores from placed balls by Bernard Allen. With just a point in it on 16 mins came a sucker punch for Raheen when a scramble in the goal saw the ball deflected into the net for Tubber's second goal but Raheen responded with a point immediately from Conor Carroll and this is how it remained until the stroke of half time when Tubber slotted over a point which gave them a lead of 2-04 to 0-06 at the break. Raheen again drew first blood at the start of the second half sending over the first 3 points inside 10 mins  before Tubber hit back with 1 of their own on 12 mins. The at the midpoint of the half Raheen were awarded a penalty when Jack O'Brien was hauled down having taken a pass from Conor Carroll who won a clean catch on the edge of the square and Conor Carroll stepped up to take it making no mistake as he blasted it past the keeper into the net. This put Raheen in front by 1 which was doubled to 2 on 18 mins when Conor Carroll slotted over a free. This proved to be Raheen's last score as Tubber turned it round with 4 points in a row in the final 10 mins to get the win.

U15 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

After winning their Championship opening round against Rhode 2 weeks previously Na Fianna U15 Footballers were always facing a much tougher prospect against last year's U14 County Champions St Broughans in Rd 2 last Monday week in Bracknagh and so it proved to be as St Broughans ran out comfortable winners by 3-10 to 0-05 to pickup their first win on the field of play having been given a walkover by Clara in Rd 1.

NA FIANNA: Shane Corcoran, Brian Malone, Jack Brickland, David Owens, Dylan Cahill, Fergal Dolan, Adam Joyce (0-02), Diarmuid Finneran, Cathal Young, Ruairi Dunne (0-01), Ronan Daly, Oisin Henchy (0-01), Jack Kelly, Joel Troy, Robbie Gallagher (0-01).

U15 B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna U15 Football No 2 Team were given a Walkover by St Rynaghs in their Championship Rd 2 encounter last Tuesday week and so Na Fianna go into Rd 3 with 2 wins out of 2.

MINOR A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna Minor Football No 1 Team's progress in the A Championship now hangs in the balance as they put in a much improved performance but were terribly unlucky to lose to last year's U16 County Champions Tullamore in Rd 2 last Wednesday evening in O'Brien Pk, Tullamore on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-07. Tullamore opening the scoring with the first 2 points inside the opening 5 mins before Na Fianna got off the mark with their first 2 points by the mid point of the half. Thereafter for the remainder of the half Tullamore scored 4 points to Na Fianna's 2 so at the break Tullamore led 0-06 to 0-04. A point apiece inside the first 10 mins of the second half maintained Tullamore's lead. Then on 12 mins came the only goal of the game when Na Fianna's Emmet Curley sent in a pass over the top which was caught by Jacob Beatty who punched it over the shoulder of the keeper into the net which put Na Fianna in front for the first time which was extended to 2 points when Ryan Dunne slotted over 2 mins later. A point apiece followed with 10 mins left to keep Na Fianna 2 up but then 4 points without reply including 3 from frees in the last 5 mins for Tullamore gave them the 2 point lead at the end to win it.

NA FIANNA: David McElduff, David Carthy, Aaron Flanagan, David Boland, Conor Owens, Adam Strong, Dylan McDermott, Glen Hassett, James Nolan, Ryan Dunne (0-01), Emmett Curley, James Bryan (0-01), Jacob Beatty (1-02), Ryan Strong (0-01), Lee Mulpeter (0-01).

MINOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Na Fianna Minor Football No 2 Team battled bravely as they lost out by the narrowest of margins to St Manchans Gaels only team in Rd 2 of the Minor Championship White Group. Na Fianna got off to a dream start scoring 1-04 inside  the first 7 mins before St Manchans opened their account with a pointed free on 9 mins which got them going as they followed it up with 2-01 including 1 goal from a penalty over the next 5 mins. This is how it remained until the final 10 mins  of the half when Na Fianna hit over 5 points in a row before St Manchans struck for their third goal on the stroke of half time. Following the bright start Na Fianna only just led by 1 at the break 1-09 to 3-02. It was St Manchans who hit the ground running scoring 6 points without reply inside the first 15 mins of the second half to lead by 5 before Na Fianna cut the deficit back to just 1 with a haul of 1-02 to St Manchans 0-01 over the next 10 mins but just could not get the equaliser. Na Fianna will now go into Rd 3 with 1 win and 1 defeat on board in this group.

MINOR A FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEMI FINAL

After having luck desert them in their 2 Championship matches Na Fianna Minor Footballers finally got the rub of the green as a blistering second half display saw them cruise to victory over Edenderry in the Minor A League Semi Final last Sunday afternoon in Ballinamere on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-06 and into the Final against neighbours St Vincents who claimed an 8 point win over Tullamore in their semi final. The first 10 mins saw both sides open the scoring with 2 points each. At the midpoint of the half Na Fianna got in front a lead that they would not thereafter surrender when Adam Strong sent in a shot from midfield to his brother Ryan who blocked it down in front of Lee Mulpeter who cheekily dribbled it round the keeper and tapped it in to the net for the opening goal. Edenderry replied immediately with a point and in the remaining time of the half both sides added a point apiece so at the break Na Fianna were just shading it 1-03 to 0-04. The second half belonged to Na Fianna who began with 4 points to Edenderry's 1 before the win was secured on 15 mins when Na Fianna's James Bryan lobbed the Edenderry keeper from over 30m out into the net for second goal and without doubt the score of the game. Thereafter it was just a matter of how much Na Fianna would win by and that was given in a 6 point haul with Edenderry managing just 1-01.

NA FIANNA: David McElduff, David Carthy, Aaron Flanagan, David Boland, Emmett Curley, Adam Strong, Dylan McDermott, James Nolan (0-04), Glen Hassett, Ryan Dunne, Mark Dillon (0-01), James Bryan (1-02), Jacob Beatty (0-03), Ryan Strong, Lee Mulpeter (1-03).
