Westmeath under-20 manager Damien Gavin is pleased with the confidence in the squad ahead of their Leinster championship clash against Offaly at O'Connor Park on Saturday.

A win over Longford at Pearse Park has helped boost confidence in the side and Gavin believes that they can push on from here and advance to the semi-final.

The former All-Ireland minor winner told the Westmeath Independent that the mood in the camp was very good at the moment, but he added an air of caution as they prepare to face their neighbours.

"Our lads have a bit of a pep in their step from the Longford victory, so we'll be hoping to use that positive energy for this weekend against Offaly," said Gavin.

"We'll be expecting a tight game. Offaly are a team who like to play fast attacking football. Their inside forward line are all capable of taking their chances when given the opportunity, so we'll have to try and keep them at bay."
