Na Fianna club notes

U13 A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Their first taste of Championship football for all of the Na Fianna U13 Footballers will not live long in the memory as the no 1 side opened their Championship campaign with defeat to St Rynaghs in Cloghan last Friday evening on a scoreline of 3-16 to 1-09. For the first 20 mins while St Rynaghs had the greater possession the sides were level at 3 points apiece. Then Na Fianna went in front for the one and only time when an overhead shot through the middle was caught by Adam Carthy who passed to Ryan Kinahan and he blasted it to the net. The response from St Rynaghs was swift and deadly as straight from the kickout going straight down the field to fire in their their first goal followed by another 1-04 to Na Fianna's single point before the end of the half so at the break St Rynaghs led 2-07 to 1-04. Na Fianna picked up the first point of the second half in the first min but St Rynaghs responded immediately with their third goal and thereafter for the remainder of the game completing their tally by over double scores 9 points to 4.

U13 B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The Championship campaign for Na Fianna U13's No 2 Football side also began with defeat to St Broughans last Saturday evening on a scoreline of 9-11 to 4-08 but this is St Broughans only U13 side and Na Fianna's side had a good few U11's playing to make up the numbers. At halftime St Broughans led 3-05 to 1-02 but Na Fianna struck first in the second half on 4 mins as Cein Gorman 1 on 1 with the keeper was brought down and Kevin Sweeney coolly dispatched the penalty to the net to add to his goal from the first half. Na Fianna added a further 2-06 over the remainder of the half with both goals scored by Cein Gorman but each time Na Fianna tried to reduce the deficit St Broughans just added to their tally scoring 6-06 in the second half despite the best efforts of Na Fianna keeper Sam Dunne who pulled off a number of brillant saves.

NA FIANNA: Sam Dunne, Tadhg Clear, Finn Hassett, Dara Grehan, Rory Grehan, Sean Cuskelly, James Buckley, Danny Gorman, Colm Nolan, Kevin Sweeney (2-04), Sean Dunne, Cein Gorman (2-04), Shane Hackett.
