Walsh Cup: Cats book final ticket

January 13, 2018

Offaly's Jordan Quinn holds possession from John Donnelly of Kilkenny

Kilkenny have booked their place in the final of this year's Walsh Cup competition.

The Cats finished on the right side of the 1-20 to 3-11 scoreline in today's semi-final against Offaly in O'Connor Park Tullamore.

The winners overturned a one point half-time deficit (1-9 to 1-10) when outscoring their hosts by 0-11 to 2-1 after the resumption.

Conor Mahon's 5th minute goal boosted the Faithful County's challenge but was cancelled out by Ger Malone with five minutes to go in the opening period.

Second-half goals from Shane Dooley (penalty) and Shane Kinsella kept Kevin Martin's side in the hunt but Kilkenny kept the scoreboard ticking over with points.

Alan Murphy took the scoring honours for the winners with 0-7 (6 frees) while Richie Reid raised five white flags from play.

Brian Cody's charges will face the winners of tomorrow's semi-final between Dublin and Wexford in the decider.
