Can anyone clue me into why Paul is being played in the full forward line? We've read the reasons why he shouldn't be there does anybody have any idea why management are persisting with this? I can't think of one reason.

John Kingham scored a fantastic goal for Cork yesterday but is their any chance that he would return to Monaghan.

Its completety and utterly mind boggling to see the management playing our best playmaker at corner forward. I just don't understand it. Paul Finlay is one of the finest passers of a ball around and we have him in at number 13. Its crazy stuff. We need Finlay to be out around the middle 3rd of the field taking the ball from the half backs, midfielders and delievering the ball into the inside forwards. Remember back when we were playing well in 2005 - 2008-ish. It was all based on long passes from Finlay into Tommy Freeman, Ronaghan, Hanratty, whoever. We have to return to that. Its as plain as the nose on your face. I actually thought the lads played well the other night. Alot of Meath followers were surprised by how well we played. The game was almost a carbon copy of last season's game against Dublin in Clones. Had alot of possession but some poor shooting and poor shot selection let us down. The team seems very fit buts its obvious that ball skills and decision making are an issue. If Mc Manus can get back to fitness and if Finlay is moved out things will improve greatly.

I know Buturd, there are many of us who have made those journeys to Leitrim and the likes before, my problem is that we are better than this. The set up at County Board and team management level is not good enough. And yes, the real fans will travel regardless but it is infuriating to watch the current slide. And again, I have no doubt we may wave bye, bye to Investec if something isn't done to stop the rot.

Toomeranger, I am not particularlly concerned either way about how people will feel if we have to travel to Tullamore or Thurles next year, don't get me wrong, I hope we are not in that position, never the less I will be travelling no matter where we are playing, as I did we Banty's team were in London and Leitrim a few years back!

Most of my last post wiped. Pity when people stopped from having open debate and one side of argument practically gagged.

Observer, clubs have just been made THINK they have the power over the last year or two.

Football is a simple game. The team that scores most wins. By scoring, that means putting the ball over the bar and occasionally under it if the chance arises. This concept does not exist in Monaghan football even at club level as there is a total fixation with negative play i.e stop the opposition from playing. We might as well have a team of runners who can't kick a ball. Our county champions had a low scoring average per game. The general philosophy is stop the opposition and sure we'll see what happens when we get up the field.
Also, the clubs now have the power in the county and the success of the county team does not really worry them as they are afraid they will loose their players as per Banty's reign. The club now comes first and for those who follow the county be prepared for a very tough few years ahead. If the clubs are to prosper alongside a successful county team then all parties will have to pull together. Can't see this happening.

how long are we going to have to watch this destruction of our county and team , time for the delagates to stand up and speak. our good days seem to be over, new leadership needed, its has to be hard for the previous county management, previous team management and previous county players to watch all their great work come undone, p.s previous players that still have it to play on the big stage.

MonaghanMan let me ask yo a question. Why were you first on the forum here to talk about Monaghan's performance? Its because you were at home sitting on your arse listening to the game. If you want to have an opinion on anything, go and watch the next game like the rest of us who put the effort in to travel.

Was there, was a decent performance out the field, very disappointing use of the ball in the forwards. Alright playing K Hughes at FF at club level - not at this level as a decent full back will bottle him up. Best having him pick up ball and breaking from deeper. D Hughes must play further out the field. he didn't know where he was supposed to be playing.
Paul Finlay at corner forward - would work great if we had another Paul Finlay to kick the ball into him. Very disappointing. Midfield well on to in the second half and couldn't get the scores. Eamonn Mc's whole body language and approach lacks urgency. Not saying he should be lepping about - we've had enough of that - but it is a real que sera sera attitude.
Not getting on his back - was prepared to give him a chance to see how he goes this year but its looking like another year of slipping down the rankings - and that is very frustrating considering we have some pretty good players out there.

Eamonn thinks jap should play in full forward line when we all know he's one of the best deep lying playmakers in the game a man to set up the play looks like another year of him being played out of position .its depressing to watch how slowly the management team are on the sidelines to make changes.

Monaghan were a shadow of their former selves last night, back to the same old rubbish. Someone posted on here that Banty couldn't handle sweeper think it was as obvious as the nose on all our faces that it is Monaghan who can't handle sweeper. Meath tactics were plainly to snuff out our danger men and this was allowed to happen. I simply couldn't believe that no attempt was made to counteract this. The wides tally was simply due to fact that shooters weren't allowed to get hands on ball. No obvious use of grey matter on sideline at all.
We are going to struggle to stay in division II, let's not fool ourselves. This brings me back to my longstanding issue with the direction our County Board is taking us. We have all listened to the bluff about 'change/development/rebuilding', to me the foundations of this 'rebuilding' are on quick sand and we are being sucked down. Again I put question out there.....how long more can we expect to hold on to Investec? What a shame.

I didn't think ye where that bad! ye defo won't go down.Yoyr midfield was strong and ye won a lot of breaking ball.I reckon if Meath could do the same we could be a very good side, because we have the forwards.Trust me ye will not go down.

General play was very promising, shooting was deporable. Any team that insists on putting their main playmaker as a corner forward doesn't deserve to win.
Monaghan played Finlay where Meath wanted him, they could bottle him up and still have men behind the ball. Its also where Antrim will want him. Didn't work last year at FF not going to work this year at CF. Just admit you got it wrong Eamon.

Malone was our most consistent player in the Mc kenna cup and it baffles me as how he did not start the game.Colin Walshe was carrying an injury coming into the game and should not have started.Jinsky also should have started. This game was there for the winning and was lost by bad decisions on the line, far too slow at making switches.More time should be spent in the training ground with ball work, the shooting was embarrassing to watch.
