MONAGHAN SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL.

Scotstown2-8, Ballybay 0-14.

Reigning champions Scotstown lived to fight another day when they snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat deep into stoppage time in a game where all the drama unfolded in time added on. Bally Bay had marginally the better of things in a fairly low-key 1st half at the end of which they led by 0-9 to 0-6, the accuracy of Paul Finlay and Christopher McGuinness responsible for most of those points. The 3rd quarter was a non-event with neither side registering a score before Ballybay broke the duck in the 18th minute with a point from a free by Paul Finlay and they went on from there to open an 8 points lead 3 minutes into stoppage time and victory and a place in the County final for the 1st time since 2011 looking to be assured. The introduction of Micheal McCarville, son of former Scotstown and Monaghan great Gerry McCarville was to have a marked effect on the eventual outcome of this game when he blasted to the Ballybay net 4 minutes into stoppage time to bring the margin down to 5. Points apiece by James Hamill and William Carroll brought the margin down to 3 with 6 minutes of injury time played but there was to be further drama with Scotstown earning a '45 that was floated into the Ballybay goal area by Rory Beggan and in a scramble big Frank Caulfield got a touch to steer the ball into the corner of the net and send the issue to a replay.

MONAGHAN SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL.

Magheracloone 4-12, Latton 1-18.

Magheracloone crashed in two goals deep into stoppage to book their place in the county final for the first time since 2010 and send Latton crashing out in this thrilling encounter that built to an electric finish in Clones yesterday.

At the end of a first half that was largely dominated by Latton, the O'Rahillys led at half time by 1-8 to 0-6, the goal by Bernard O'Brien in the 20th minute when he got a hand to a centre by Stephen McCabe to steer the ball past David Kirk.

Magheracloone were a transformed side in the second-half, starting with 3 quick fire points on the resumption and by the 19th minute they had drawn level with a goal by James Ward. Latton responded well for 3 points on the trot to lead by 3 with 9 minutes of normal time remaining but a brilliant solo goal by Allan Kieran brought Magheracloone level for the 2nd time. Going into stoppage time though it looked as if Latton had done enough when they opened a 2 points lead with strikes by substitute Christopher Rice and Darren McElroy but back came Magheracloone for 2 goals inside 2 minutes from Tomas Freeman in the 34th minute and Paudie McMahon a minute later to open a 4 points lead and Latton literally shellshocked at the dramatic turn of events. Magheracloone finished the game with 14 players when Gavin Doogan was sent off on a second yellow card in the final minute of normal time.
