Doohamlet GFC Club Notes

July 26, 2017

Minor Championship DIV3:  Pride of place this week goes to our minor footballers who defeated a highly fancied Cremartin side last Tuesday evening in the Minor football Championship.  Doohamlet led throughout before Cremartin scored an equalising goal midway through the second half leaving the score at 1-08 each, Eoin Markey with the Doohamlet goal.  This set up a grant stand finish as both sides served up a thriller leaving both sets of supporters on the edge of their seats.  The home side responded however showing great character and no little skill to finish the game scoring three unanswered points and qualify for the next round winning 1-12 to 1-09.

An excellent all round team performance with Dermot Kelly, Hugh McGinn, Cormac McKenna, Eoin Markey, Oisin O'Neill, John Murphy and youngsters Daniel Connolly and Cillian Walshe all outstanding.  Special mention must go to Sean Markey who gave a powerhouse display at midfield.  Well done Sean and team.

Seniors:  Our Senior team travelled to Corduff on Friday evening last and suffered another defeat with the home side winning 2-11 to 0-10.  Both sides went in at half time all square but Doohamlets inability to convert chances in the second half proved our undoing and Corduff were much more economical in front of goal and ran out deserving winners.  No doubt Doohamlet are in a real battle from now until end of season and the players must regroup and prepare for the battles ahead.

Bereavements:    Last week both Cremartin and Doohamlet GFC joined in solidarity as we laid to rest Mrs Rose Boyd Lisnagreive, wife of former player Gerry Boyd.  Deepest sympathy to the Boyd family at this sad time.

Also our club sends its sincere condolences to the McElroy family when news broke of the passing of Mr Patsy McElroy Croghan after a short illness.  This is a very emotional time for the McElroy family and our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
