Hilliard expects stern Tir Chonaill test

February 14, 2017

Monaghan hurling manager Trevor Hilliard knows his charges are facing a difficult test against Donegal this Sunday but says everyone is looking forward to the challenge.

Hilliard's charges scored a convincing 3-15 to 1-11 victory over Tyrone in their Division 3A opener last weekend and now face a Tir Chonaill outfit which were equally as impressive in their first round win against Louth.

"It's going to be a tough game on Sunday although both of us won our games last Sunday," Hilliard stated.

"We had a good win against Tyrone and Donegal had a good win against Louth, but in fairness those results have to be taken in the context they were the first games of the season, so it's essential not to read too much into that.

"Having said that though, Donegal were strong and they have regrouped very well since being relegated and they have strengthened their squad. They have been playing two divisions above us for the last couple of seasons, so that experience will certainly stand to them and they would probably be regarded as favourites in some quarters anyway to win division 3A."

Throw-in for Sunday's game in Castleblayney is at 2pm.
